The Fifth Annual Bronx Biennial opened Sept. 9 at Bronx Art Space and will run to October 8, 2016.

The 5th Bronx Latin American Art Biennial, "I am one of those  people that..." includes work by artists, Jairo Alfonso, Hubert Caño, Franck de Las Mercedes, Manuel Bautista León, Carlos Mateu, Chiqui Mendoza, Horacio Molina, Victor Mora, Stephanie Mota, Bernardo Navarro, Aby Ruiz, SASHALYNILLO, and Zinthia Vazquez.

This show, one of several events this Fall in the Bronx, presents an evolution of styles and techniques practiced by contemporary Latin-American artists living in the Bronx and abroad. Artworks engage personal aspects of the artists’ philosophy and creation process as well as some of today’s social issues such as: migration, women’s rights, political conflicts, and discrimination.

Curated by Alexis Mendoza and Luis Stephenberg, the exhibition reveals the complex and diverse approaches of Latin American artists living inside and outside the United States.

BronxArtSpace supports underrepresented and emerging artists and fosters arts education through themed exhibitions and events in Mott Haven in the South Bronx.

BronxArtSpace is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization, and is supported in part by public funds from NYC Dept of Cultural Affairs in Partnership with City Council and the NYS Council on the Arts.
