The 2016 edition of the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial is called, “I am one of those people that...”. The exhibitions of the Biennial will present artworks referring to personal aspects of the creation process. The curators of the 5th Bronx Latin American Art Biennial were interested in the way artists think and what are the specifics behind the creating process.

Fourth Bronx Latin American Art Biennial

The 4th Bronx Latin-American Art Biennial celebrated performance art through a series of programs at six cultural institutions throughout the Bronx including The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx Art Space, Lincoln Hospital Sculpture, Hebrew Home Riverdale, Allan Poe Park Visitor Center Gallery, and the Museum of Bronx History. Entitled Uninterrupted Fusion/Fusion Incesante, this Biennial encouraged a shift of the viewer’s attention from the art object to the artist’s action through the series of live performances and the presentations of filmed performances.

Box Art Project

The Box Art Project or "Cajarte 2007" was part of the original Biennial exhibit. Curators Alexis Mendoza, Miguel Lescano, and Luis Stephenberg commissioned and presented community artworks at the corner of 149th Street and Third Avenue and outside the Bronx Museum.

The first group exhibition at the Lincoln Hospital Gallery, presented art as an expression of the human condition and it reflects the notions of progress, civilizations, welfare, society and culture. It was the original idea of the curators to aim for education and cultural information for every one, and becuse of the wide reach of this intention, all the events are family oriented. It’s an event that celebrates not only the richness of the Latin American art but also the diversity of our community.
